Prince Harry and Meghan have made their first joint public appearance in Britain since returning to live in the country. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were welcomed by cheering crowds in Nottingham on Thursday.
Flowers and balloons were presented as the couple greeted well-wishers. Selfies were taken, and hands were shaken during the visit. Meghan was heard telling one supporter, “It’s great to be back.”
A Visit Focused on Young People
The first stop was the Community Recording Studio in St Ann’s, Nottingham. The charity helps young people develop creative skills through music, film and video.
A confidence-building workshop was joined by Meghan. Friendship bracelets were made with a group of girls. When one participant spoke about enjoying gymnastics, Meghan shared that her daughter also loved the sport.
“Our daughter is doing that too right now. She loves it,” she said, according to the supplied report.
Meghan also spoke about her love of family life and cooking. Her lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, has similarly focused on food, hosting and home life.
Food Support and Community Work
The couple later visited Himmah Hub, a community group working to tackle food poverty. Cooking activities were joined, and food parcels were packed for people in need.
The visit also brought Meghan back into contact with community work linked to her earlier charitable projects. The Sussexes were expected to visit Epic Partners, which supports young people through mentoring, sport and other activities.
Nottingham has a special place in the couple’s public story. Their first joint appearance after announcing their engagement took place in the city in 2017.
A Return Outside Royal Duties
The appearance followed the couple’s return to Britain in August with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The family had moved to the United States in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties.
Their latest engagements were not official events on behalf of King Charles III. In September, a letter authorised by the King reaffirmed that Harry and Meghan were to be treated as private citizens. Their charitable work was described as a personal matter.
The couple’s relationship with the royal family has remained strained since their departure. They have previously cited press intrusion, online abuse, concerns about racism and family tensions among the reasons for leaving.
Security Questions Remain
Harry has continued to seek changes to the security arrangements provided for his family during visits to Britain. Their protection was reduced after they stepped away from royal duties, and the issue has remained unresolved.
A fresh security assessment was reported following the family’s return. The arrangements remain an important consideration as the couple establish their lives in Britain.
The Nottingham visit marked a public return for the couple, but not a return to official royal roles. Their latest engagements instead placed the focus on youth support, community projects and food assistance.
