Before his current job, Brighton worked as a boda boda rider. This was after he unfortunately dropped out of school in 2019 at Form Three. Undeterred by his circumstances, he later secured a job as a security in the county government offices. Through hard work and dedication, he eventually progressed to a cleaner position.
“In 2019, I was in Form Three when I dropped out of school. I started hustling as a boda boda rider before I got a chance to work in the county government offices. I initially started out as a watchman before I got the chance to work in the county offices as a cleaner.”
Brighton’s journey to homeownership was not an easy one. However, his living arrangements with his parents proved to be a blessing in disguise. By carefully managing his salary and expenses, he was able to save a significant portion of his earnings. With each passing month, his dream of having his own permanent home in Kakamega started to take shape.
“I built on the land that my dad gave me, and the house has cost me around KSh 1.2 million. I know by the end of the year I will have managed to finish it.”
Speaking with Tuko, Brighton expressed his excitement as the construction of his house reached its final stages. He attributes his achievement to his unwavering commitment to saving and the support of his parents. His parents provided him with a place to live while he worked towards his goals.
