Botswana President Duma Gideon Boko has arrived in Beijing for a state visit to China from October 12 to 17, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The visit, his first since taking office in November 2024, includes talks with Xi, meetings with senior Chinese officials and a trip to Fujian Province. The visit builds on more than 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Botswana, established in 1975, and their strategic partnership formed in September 2024. Both countries seek to strengthen cooperation in key sectors, including energy, mining, education and healthcare.
Russia and the United States are discussing diesel supplies following a phone call between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said. Moscow has authorised diesel exports to global markets, including the US, to help ease supply pressures linked to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and reduced global refining capacity. Novak estimates Russia could export 3 million to 3.5 million tonnes of diesel monthly by the end of 2026, while maintaining domestic supplies. The move follows repeated extensions of Russian fuel export restrictions, with the ban on direct exports by fuel producers extended until October 31, while restrictions on non-producers remain in place until January 31, 2027.
